Frequently Asked Questions ( FAQ)

What is keratin?

It’s a natural protein in your hair, which consists of 90% keratin and 10% water. The protein makes sure that hair and nails remain strong, healthy and shiny. During keratin treatments, the natural production of keratin is imitated, so that the hair is strengthened and becomes more shiny. The treatment does not damage the hair the way chemical treatments do, and it’s not permanent, so that there will be no outgrowth.

How does your hair lose keratin?
  • Aging hair
  • Chemical treatments (applying blond dye, straightening, relaxing)
  • High temperatures (blow-dryers, straighteners and curling irons)
  • The climate (sun, wind and rain)
  • Chloride and sea salt
  • Low quality care products
What are the advantages of a keratin treatment?
  • It saves time: if you use styling products or high temperatures every day, a keratin treatment can shorten your drying time and the styling process by 40% to 60%
  • The hair will be straighter, a keratin treatment has a straightening effect between 50% and 100% (depending on the hair type and the condition of the hair)
  • After a keratin treatment, the fizziness and dryness is reduced by at least 80%
  • It’s nourishing, and it will make the hair stronger and more shiny
How often can you repeat a keratin treatment?

A keratin treatment will stay in the hair for 3 to 5 months, depending on the condition of the hair and the care. But you can already repeat a keratin treatment after 4 weeks (if necessary), for example when the hair is very damaged. Or if you need your hair to be even straighter.

However, a keratin treatment may not be repeated more than 2 times in a short period of 2 months, the reason for this is that you would otherwise over-nourish your hair, and this is also unhealthy for the hair.

How does it work?

The hair is washed very well with a deep cleansing shampoo, after which you will apply the keratin. Keratin has to be left in for 30 to 50 minutes (depending on the product and brand), and then you should use heat and a straightener to embed it. The process takes about 90 minutes or longer, depending on the length of your hair.

From what age can you get a keratin treatment?

We advise a minimum of 4 years (keratin treatments without formaldehyde).

How long does a keratin treatment stay in the hair?

A keratin treatment lasts for 3 to 5 months, depending on the condition of the hair. The better the quality of the hair, the longer the treatment will last.

Keratin treatment aftercare?

After a keratin treatment, the hair should be cared for with keratin aftercare. These products have been developed as aftercare for a keratin treatment, and are rich in keratin and certain ingredients which will care for and maintain the treatment.

Does a keratin treatment straighten the hair?

Keratin treatments have a straightening effect of 50 % to 100%, depending on the hair type and condition of the hair. There is also a keratin treatment that preserve curls and volume. This keratin treatment nourishes and strengthens the hair without altering the hair’s structure.

Keratin treatment with curl and volume preservation, what is that?

Hair can be worn out by chemical treatments and under influence of damaging substances every day. This treatment nourishes the hair with proteins and nutrients that are essential for the health of your hair. The volume of the hair is lessened up to 10 percent, but the hair’s structure won’t change. The hair will be 60% less dry and fizzy.

Colouring your hair before a keratin treatment?

For an ideal result, it’s best to have your hair coloured one week before the keratin treatment. If you want to dye your hair blond or have highlights put in, it’s better to do this two weeks before the keratin treatment. It’s also possible to colour your hair after the keratin treatment. We recommend you to wait for two weeks after the keratin treatment.

How long does a keratin treatment take?

The duration depends on the thickness and length of the hair. On average, a keratin treatment takes between 2 and 4 hours.

How often can you wash your hair after the keratin treatment?

About twice a week, with keratin care products. If you wash your hair more often, the keratin will wear out sooner.

Can you undergo a keratin treatment during pregnancy?

That’s possible. We advise the keratin treatment without formaldehyde.

Is a keratin treatment a straightening treatment?

No, a keratin treatment is not a relaxer or straightener that straightens the hair permanently. A keratin treatment is a nourishing and restorative treatment, which nourishes the hair deeply.
